This is the original canvas work “Rocking Horse” from Handbrake’s recent “Toybox Nostalgia” series – now available for sale.

A Rocking Horse, in some form, has been around for over 150 years! That makes it one of the GOATs of nostalgic kids toys and many of us have memories of them from when we were young. This work is one of three pieces in the recently released series, available as prints, but the original of this piece is still up for grabs.

In the “Toybox Nostalgia” series Handbrake explores the mortality of our cherished memories by presenting beloved childhood toys with internal skeletons; reminding us that even our memories and our pasts are mortal. All things will one day end.

The three original canvas paintings were first revealed in Handbrake’s 2024 solo exhibition “Chaos Concludes”. Painted with aerosol, acrylic, and graffiti ink markers this work is cute with a mixture of pop art and street aesthetics.
