“Sailor Mojo” Original Canvas Painting

Mojos – a Fremantle Icon

He’s rugged, he’s beardy, and he’s a Fremantle mainstay. Meet “Sailor Mojo” – the original canvas painting of the main character that graces the mural on the front of Mojos Bar, one of the best live music venues in Western Australia.

Hans was asked to paint the beloved mural at Mojos by Jack Daniel’s, but there were plenty of rules about what colours he was allowed to use. It turns out he could only use black, white, grey, and brown (the JD colours) but Hans always saw Sailor Mojo in full colour! So he recreated the beardy character exactly the way he saw him in his head – with reds and yellows and greens, and lots of brushstrokes mixed in with aerosol.

And this is the result! A MASSIVE canvas that currently hangs bright and proud inside the front door of the very bar it’s named for.

We love the mural but there’s something about placing rules on an artist’s vision that doesn’t sit quite right. So this original work is a celebration of vision and “not being told what to do”.
